Creative Army Week 4: From First Login to First Win- How to Get the Most Out of Stage 32

Happy Monday, Creative Army!

Here's something I've learned in my years as Head of Community: the members who get the most out of Stage 32 are almost never the ones who understood everything on day one.

They're the ones who found one thing that worked, did it consistently, and then found the next thing.

This is the guide I wish every member had in their first week. I originally wrote a version of it in 2024, and enough has changed since then that it needed a proper rebuild. Whether you joined last Tuesday or five years ago, my hope is you find at least one thing in here you didn't know was waiting for you.

It's also Week 4 of our Creative Army Drive, and this week's mission connects directly to everything below. More on that in a bit.

Start Here: Your First Week

If you do nothing else, do these five things. They're free, they take very little time, and they're the foundation everything else sits on.

1) Build a profile that does the work for you.

How to get there: In the top toolbar on every page, click Profile, then About from the submenu. The red Edit button beside your profile picture is where you change everything below.

Real photo, full bio, and specifics. What you do, what you're working on, what you're looking for. Not "passionate storyteller." This is the first thing anyone sees when they meet you here, and a vague profile costs you opportunities you'll never know about. One note worth taking seriously: AI-generated images, or photos without a clearly visible face, make people wary and rarely lead anywhere.

Your tagline is the field at the top, and it's your headline. "Emmy-nominated writer, currently looking for staffing opportunities." "Cinematographer specializing in practical effects." "Director seeking character-driven thrillers." Specific beats poetic every time.

Your cover images rotate automatically, so upload one or thirty photos. Behind-the-scenes stills, on-set photos, headshots, posters, design work.

Your professions are what we use to match you with the 3,000+ executives we partner with, so fill them out accurately. As our matchmaking expands, that field is what puts you in front of opportunities you'd never have found alone.

And your featured projects go deeper than most platforms allow. Track a project from idea through second draft through pre-production, list every role you hold on it, store loglines and taglines, and keep people updated as it moves.

You get a showcase from day one that grows as you do. You don't have to look the part. You are the part. Let your profile prove it.

2) Introduce yourself.

How to get there: In the top toolbar, click Lounge to open the full Lounge list, then select Introduce Yourself.

Post in the Introduce Yourself Lounge and tell us who you are, what you're building, and what you're hoping to find. Every month we run Introduce Yourself Weekend, which is a few days where thousands of members from around the world do this all at once. It's the easiest possible way in, because for one weekend nobody is a stranger.

3) Comment on two Lounge posts a day.

How to get there: Top toolbar, click Lounge to open the full list, then go into whichever rooms interest you and start reading.

Answer a question you know the answer to. Congratulate somebody. Share a resource. Ask a follow-up question. Two comments are a five-minute habit, and it's how people start recognizing you.

4) Post in two Lounges a week.

How to get there: Top toolbar, click Lounge, open the list, and choose a room. The posting box sits at the top of every individual Lounge. From there you can upload a photo, add a video, or share a link. Every post has a subject line that becomes its own live URL, which means you can save it or send it to somebody to bring them straight into the conversation.

Ask the question you've been carrying around. Share what you learned the hard way. Post the article or video you can't stop thinking about and tell us why. Ask for feedback, advice, or insights into what you're working on currently.

5) Send three network requests a week.

How to get there, two ways. From someone's profile, click the Add to Network button beside their photo. Or from any Lounge conversation, click the + beside their photo on a post or comment.

When someone's comment helps you, reach out. Continue the conversation. Do three good turns for a new contact before you ask for anything in return.

That's the whole foundation, and it costs nothing but attention.

The Lounges: Where This Community Lives

How to get there: In the top toolbar on every page, click Lounge to open the full Lounge list.

The Stage 32 Lounges are the heart of this platform. Free, public, active every single day, and organized by discipline so you can find your people fast.

You'll find "Lounge" in the top toolbar on every page. Click it and you'll see every Lounge available to you, broken up by craft and interest.

A few worth knowing by name: Screenwriting. Filmmaking. Producing. Acting. Cinematography. Financing. Distribution. Animation.

How To Successfully Navigate The Stage 32 Platform

One rule worth understanding.

Promotion isn't allowed in the craft Lounges, and that's deliberate. It keeps those rooms full of value, questions, and answers rather than sales pitches. But we have a Lounge built specifically for promotion, Your Stage, where you can share your projects, your pitches for specific collaborators, your crowdfunding campaign, your screenings, and your events, and we can all celebrate with you.

How To Successfully Navigate The Stage 32 Platform

One more thing that happens in the Lounges, and it's free.

We host Ask Me Anything events regularly, nearly every Wednesday, in a free Lounge. A working industry professional takes over a thread for the day and answers whatever members ask. Executives, producers, reps, writers, crew.

You don't need to register, and you don't need to be online at a particular time. You post your question in the comments and they answer it. Most run 24 hours, so members in every time zone get a real shot at being heard.

These are promoted in the Lounges and across Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn, so watch for them.

If you've never joined one, this is genuinely one of the highest-value free things on the platform. Direct access to a professional whose time normally costs money, and all it takes is stopping for two minutes to ask a question.

And here's my honest advice about the Lounges.

Don't only spend time in the room that matches your job title. If you're a writer, spend time in the Producing Lounge. If you're a filmmaker, read and comment on posts in the Screenwriting Lounge. If you're a Composer, make sure you're also learning from Post-Pros in the Post Production Lounge or Filmmakers in the Filmmaking Lounge. Everything you learn one room over makes you better in your own, and it puts you in front of people who'd never otherwise find you.

The Part Nobody Tells You About How This Works

I want to say something that isn't in any navigation guide, because it's the thing that actually determines who succeeds here.

Take your time.

The members who get the most out of Stage 32 are not the ones who move fastest. They're the ones who build real relationships and let the opportunities come out of them. Not the reverse.

That's the opposite of most people's instinct. You find someone who could help you, so you make the ask. It feels efficient. It almost never works, and here's why.

There are professionals in these Lounges you don't recognize.

Working executives. Development professionals. Producers, reps, financiers, distributors, and crew with decades of experience. A great many of them are here quietly, reading, occasionally answering a question, not announcing themselves. They're watching how you conduct yourself. Not in a sinister way. In the way anyone evaluates a potential collaborator before they invest anything in them. And they're reading real signals.

If you belittle or dismiss other members, that is a red flag. If you publicly shame or insult someone, that tells them a great deal. If you lead with a pitch or a promotion before you've had an actual conversation, most of them quietly move on to somebody else.

But it works the other way too. When you're supportive and compassionate with people, it often says you'll be steady when a project gets hard. When you offer help without expecting anything in return, it says you're a genuine collaborator rather than someone managing their own interests. When you follow the guidelines, post in the right places, and communicate professionally, it signals you'll be professional and trustworthy on a set or in a writers' room.

Every move you make here matters. Which means the power to stand out, in the best possible way, is entirely in your hands.

Nobody's asking you to perform. Just be the kind of person you'd want to work with, consistently, and let people notice those great things about who you are as a person.

Finding People: The Browse Tool

How To Successfully Navigate The Stage 32 Platform

How to get there: In the top toolbar on every page, click Browse.

Browse lets you search members by location, occupation, and name. If you're looking for a composer in Berlin or a producer in Atlanta, this is where you start.

You can also browse Projects, Videos, Loglines, and Meetups from the same menu. Worth knowing that you can upload your own videos and loglines to the platform, and that commenting thoughtfully on other members' loglines and videos is one of the more underused ways to be helpful here.

Education: 3,500+ Hours and Counting

How to get there: In the top toolbar on every page, click Education. From there you can filter by webinars, classes, or labs, browse by craft or industry topic, or search for a keyword.

When RB launched Stage 32, world-class education was non-negotiable for him. Today we have the largest film, television, and digital content education library anywhere, with over 3,500 hours of webinars, classes, and labs taught by working professionals, including Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA winners.

You'll find Education in the top toolbar of every page. From there you can search by keyword, browse by category, or look through what's trending.

Everything becomes available on-demand after it airs, with all class materials included. So if a live class is at 3am where you are, register anyway and watch it whenever suits you.

How To Successfully Navigate The Stage 32 Platform

Your purchased and registered education lives in My Library, in the top right of the Education page. And you can watch all of it from the free Stage 32 app.

Not sure where to start? Email our Education Team at Edu@Stage32.com, tell them your goals and where you are, and they'll point you toward what actually fits. It's a real person reading, and it saves you an hour of guessing.

Certification: Get Trained, Get in the Database

How to get there: In the top toolbar on every page, click Certification.

This is the part of the platform I think members understand least, and it's one of the most practical things we offer.

Here's the problem it solves. There's more production happening globally than there are qualified people to crew it. Film commissions offer significant incentives to attract work and then struggle to staff it locally. Meanwhile, traditional film school leaves graduates with enormous debt and often teaches very little below-the-line skill.

Stage 32 Certification is our answer. Training in multiple above and below-the-line disciplines that will give people the universal skills to work on film or TV production around the world. Taught by World-Class Stage 32 Educators who have worked on top films & television shows, Stage 32 Certification is designed to teach the fundamentals that ensure creatives are prepared to step into a work opportunity immediately. Film commissions and Guilds from around the globe are working with Stage 32 Certification to cater training opportunities in their local areas, allowing people to be hired quickly and helping these commissions meet the demands for production projects in the pipeline.

As of 2026 we're working with over 60 film commissions worldwide, including the Association of Film Commissions International, with more joining all the time!

How To Successfully Navigate The Stage 32 Platform

Every Certification holder is entered into a global database that film commissions, streamers, and production companies search when they need crew. You also get a Certification badge on your Stage 32 profile, visible to over 1.5 million members, plus graphics for LinkedIn and your resume.

It's a fraction of the cost of film school, there's no application, and nobody gets denied. You can take the courses virtually from anywhere in the world and make it work around your busy life and schedule.

Master Certifications are multi-course tracks covering a full discipline.

Individual Certifications are single courses on one specific skill: budget creation, production scheduling, call sheets, US tax incentive management, crew and talent agreements, location scouting, and more.

Browse them all here.

Script Services: Professional Eyes on Your Work

How to get there: In the top toolbar on every page, click Script Services, or Contests if that's what you're after.

Script Services connects you directly with working industry professionals for feedback, consultation, and pitching. You'll find it in the top toolbar.

For your script:
First 10 Pages Review · Logline Polish · Script Coverage from an Industry Reader · Feature Script Read · TV Pilot Read · Feature Script Proofreading · Television Pilot Proofreading · Adaptation Review

For your materials and your career:
Pitch Sessions · Career Development Call · TV Pitch Bible or Feature Pitch Deck Review · Reel or Short Film Review · Contests

One thing worth knowing about who you're meeting. Every executive taking pitches through Stage 32 has been vetted by our team. We've verified that they are who they say they are and we require them to make their bios and credits publicly visible for you all to see. That's a transparency standard most of this industry doesn't hold itself to.

Anyone you book through Stage 32, whether that's a Pitch Session, a consultation, a Career Development Call, or a class, has been vetted by our team. You can walk into those conversations knowing exactly who's on the other side. And if the experience ever falls short of what you expected, tell us, and we'll address it with them directly.

Then there's everyone else, and that's the larger and in many ways more exciting group. Over 1.5 million members across 190 countries, any one of whom might send you a network request or a message. They might be a forty-year veteran. They might be someone who joined last week and is about to become your closest collaborator. Stage 32 is free and open to everyone, and that's exactly what makes this place work. It's the reason a first-time writer can end up in conversation with a working producer, and why so many of the best relationships here started with someone nobody had heard of yet.

Openness is the whole point. It just means the same good judgment you'd use meeting anyone new applies here too, and we've made that easy.

You control who can message you. If someone's in your network and you'd rather they weren't, remove them, and they can no longer send you private messages.

If someone approaches you privately and you're unsure about the interaction, report anything that feels wrong. Email me at Edu@Stage32.com or our Support Team at Edu@Stage32.com. If someone is misrepresenting themselves here, we want to know so we can remove them. When you speak up, you're protecting yourself and members who might not think to question it.

If you're not sure what you need or want some guidance, that's exactly what our Success Team is for. Email Edu@Stage32.com, tell them about your project, your goals, the genres you work in, and the kind of professional you want to reach. They'll come back with a curated list rather than leaving you to guess.

Creative Army Week 4 From First Login to First Win How to Get the Most Out of Stage 32

This Week's Creative Army Mission: Report for Duty

Monday, September 21 through Sunday, September 27

Everything above is the tour. This week's mission is the live version, and it's the easiest one of the month.

Step 1: Register for Wednesday's Community Open House.

It's this Wednesday, September 23rd at 12:00 PM PT, and it's free. Everything in this blog is the fundamentals. Where things live, what they do, how to get started. That's useful, and it's also the part I can write down.

What I can't write down is the version aimed at you.

At the Open House we can go far deeper, because you can ask me questions live. Not only where to find what you need, but how you specifically should be using these spaces and resources for your goals, your projects, and your interests. A writer three drafts into a pilot needs a different answer than an actor building a reel or a producer trying to finance a short. The guide can't tell you which one you are. A conversation can.

So it isn't a presentation. You ask, I answer. Bring a project, a roadblock, or the question you've been sitting on for six months. We close with a live Q&A built entirely around the people in the room.

Already registered? Comment on this week's Creative Army post (click here) and say you're in. Can't make it live? Register anyway. That gets you the full recording, and it still counts for the mission through the end of day Sunday.

Step 2: Share the registration link with one of your creative circles.

Your acting class. Your film group. Your community theater. Your festival contacts. Your Discord, your WhatsApp group, your writing partner, the composer from your last short.

Then tell us in your comment who you brought along. That's the whole mission. Show up for your community, and find out what Stage 32 has waiting for you this fall.

Creative Army Week 4 From First Login to First Win How to Get the Most Out of Stage 32

How to Claim Your Prize

One comment on this week's Creative Army post in the Producing Lounge (click here), along these lines:

"Registered! Here's who I invited to join me for the Open House: a friend I've gotten to know in the Animation Lounge."

"Registered! I shared it with my Screenwriting Facebook group."

"Registered! Sent it to my production WhatsApp group and my writing partner."

That's it.

This week's prize: a free Stage 32 Logline Polish for every member who completes the mission.

Your logline is how your screenplay is introduced to the world. It's rare that anyone reads your script without hearing something about it first. Actors, producers, directors, managers, agents, financiers, and development executives all lean on a logline before they agree to read anything. If your logline doesn't sing, the script usually doesn't get opened. Worse, a logline that doesn't work signals to people who read for a living that the script probably doesn't either.

With a Logline Polish, you submit your current logline and a one-page synopsis. A professional reader with at least five years of logline experience at studios, production companies, or management firms sends back a written assessment of what you have, a professionally constructed version, and feedback explaining the difference. Turnaround is five days.

It's Just the Beginning

We're still only scratching the surface here. There's no limit to what you can build with these resources, and the members who get the most out of this place are the ones who treat it as a practice rather than a destination.

And the ones who treat the people here as people, not as a list of opportunities.

At every step, this team is in your corner.

Now tell me something in the comments: what's the one feature or resource on Stage 32 you've gotten the most out of? If you've been here a while, your answer might be exactly what a new member needs to hear this week.

And if you're brand new and reading this wondering where to start, say hello. I'll answer you myself.

See you Wednesday!

Let's hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Got an idea for a post? Or have you collaborated with Stage 32 members to create a project? We'd love to hear about it. Email Ashley at Edu@Stage32.com and let's get your post published!

Please help support your fellow Stage 32ers by sharing this on social. Check out the social media buttons at the top to share on Instagram @stage32 , Twitter @stage32 , Facebook @stage32 , and LinkedIn @stage-32 .
