What has Filmed in Limpopo, South Africa?

The film industry in Limpopo, South Africa, has rapidly emerged as a dynamic and promising sector within the broader national landscape, buoyed by the region’s unique scenery, talented creatives, and growing production infrastructure. Limpopo has increasingly attracted the attention of local and international filmmakers, with major projects like the M-Net telenovela Legacy filming its early episodes at Palala Boutique Game Lodge & Spa in Lephalale—an initiative that has paved the way for larger companies to recognize Limpopo’s potential as a filming destination. The region’s creative talent has also gained international acclaim, with Limpopo-born filmmaker Murena Emmanuel Netshitangani winning Best African Film at Cannes for his work Lubunyu, filmed entirely at Ha-Khakhu Makuleni in Limpopo. These achievements underscore the province’s capacity not only to host large-scale productions but also to nurture original, globally competitive storytelling. Local government agencies, such as the Limpopo Arts & Culture Council, have been established to support filmmakers and position Limpopo as a hub for both film tourism and industry growth. As investment continues and more productions choose Limpopo for its compelling backdrops and skilled workforce, the province is set to play an increasingly influential role in South Africa’s film and television sector.
